The 2007 Collaboration Summits on Poverty
Throughout the Fall of 2007, NORWESCAP led 5 events throughout the agency service area (Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Warren) titled, the 2007 Collaboration Summits on Poverty. The focus of these events was to educate the community on poverty issues and to bring together partners throughout local communities and introduce new ways for groups and individuals to work together to end poverty. The forums provided an opportunity for networking, creative thinking and a chance to identify new ways for different sectors to work together and address poverty issues.
At the completion of the fifth event, it was obvious that each Summit was a success. The Summits heightened poverty awareness and created new opportunities for groups to work together. At each Summit attendees were separated into groups and were given an opportunity to create a “winning” idea. Each winning idea demonstrated new opportunities to engage other sectors to form new partnerships tackling poverty issues. One “winning idea” was selected at each event and each group was provided a gift certificate to a local restaurant which provided an opportunity for each group to meet and further develop these collaborative ideas. The progress on each group will be added to the website as information becomes available.
