How does "green energy" work?

To help facilitate the sale of renewable electricity nationally, a system was established that separates renewable electricity generation into two parts: the electricity produced by a renewable generator and the renewable "attributes" of that generation. These renewable attributes are sold separately as renewable energy certificates (RECs). One REC is issued for each megawatt-hour (MWh) unit of renewable electricity produced. Buying RECs helps build a market for renewable electricity and contributes to environmental sustainability.

Q. Will I have to get a new meter or any new equipment?

No. You will not have to make any purchases or changes to the system you currently have. You will keep the meter you have always had and it will be read the same way and on the same cycle. No physical or logistical changes are required.

Q. Who do I call if I have problems with my service?
If you have any problems, you will contact the utility. They remain responsible for the delivery of your energy, as well as for any necessary maintenance and repairs.

Q. If I switch, will my reliability be affected?
No. Viridian and other retail suppliers are just as reliable as the utility. All electricity providers, including Viridian, are monitored and licensed by the utility commission or responsible authority in your state.

Q. How will I be billed?
The same way you always have been. You will continue to receive one bill each month with charges for your usage, and the same service and delivery charges. If you wish to change your current payment method you can do so through the utility.

Q. How do I enroll?
Enrollment is simple and fast.You can do it online or over the phone. Viridian needs to know your basic contact information and your unique utility identification code which can be easily found on any of your bills.

Q. Can I cancel my service with Viridian at any time?
Yes. If you are not satisfied with your service at Viridian, you can change your service back to the utility or another provider of your choice.
