Join Us in Cultivating a Better Planet TM Arthur & Friends provides meaningful community employment and training opportunities for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages so that they may live, work, and fully participate in their communities. The Greenhouse Project includes multiple approaches to providing transferable skill training and employment through an agri-business that will consist of growing and selling organic produce to local wholesale, retail and online customers. This project represents an opportunity for increasing and improving employment opportunities that allow individuals with disabilities and disadvantages to: (1) learn and master life-skills as well as work skills; (2) develop an organizational culture that encourages persons with disabilities to utilize their potential to contribute rather than discounting them on the basis of stereotypes or generalizations about their "limitations"; (3) achieve economic self-sufficiency; and (4) attain full access to, and participation in, their communities. Arthur & Friends mission is to develop employment opportunities in Agribusiness occupations and industries based on the strengths, needs, and desires of the individual with a disability, including self-employment and entrepreneurship where appropriate. We are determined to bring disabled and impoverished people out of the shadowy world to which they are typically confined. This task demands more training, working and social opportunities. These people want what we all want… the chance to be educated, find rewarding work, lead worthwhile lives and be valued members of their community and the world at large. These desires need not be just idle dreams, since much can be achieved if we are ready to give this extensive problem the attention and commitment it demands. Arthur & Friends provides hydroponically grown local produce to restaurants, stores and the public cultivated in greenhouses in Sussex, Essex, Warren and Morris Counties, New Jersey. We are working to expand our social entrepreneurial program to every county in the state of New Jersey. Arthur & Friends is funded in part by Kessler Foundation which is a public charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with physical disabilities caused by stroke, multiple sclerosis, injuries to the brain and spinal cord, and other chronic conditions.
Requirements Services designed to assist residents, age 18 and over, who have a disability or are disadvantaged.
