A Circle Leader is the center of the Circles ™ Initiative and is an individual or family with economic challenges that is prepared to take advantage of opportunities and become a leader as part of a larger community. Circle Leaders assume decision-making and leadership roles to receive and give support within the Circle.
A Circle Leader receives support from individual volunteers called Allies. Allies help a Circle Leader obtain personal goals and increase their knowledge of poverty issues. Circle Leaders through training and experience become experts on poverty issues in the community.
All Circle Leaders attend a fifteen week course called Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World
These facilitated weekly meetings help Circle Leaders to assume a decision making and leadership role. Through this process each Circle Leader will set their individual goals in the following areas: income, budgeting, education or training, and friendships and supports. At the completion of this fifteen week course, Circle Leaders are matched with their individual Allies. Circle Leaders and Allies build supportive relationships.

Hard work, communication, leadership training and meeting attendance are required. Circle Leaders are committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve those personal goals. The Circles Initiative will help to ensure that a Circle Leader has enough resources and supportive relationships to be successful.
